What is Medical Transcription?

Medical transcription is the process of converting audio files of patient records, patient’s medical reports, operation reports, clinic notes, office notes, assessments, clinical procedures, diagnosis, and prognosis into electronic text format.

What is the need for Medical Transcription?

In western countries the doctors and patients can claim medical insurance based on the patients records which are documented. The documentation of the patients’ case history decides the medical insurance claims and lawsuits. So maintaining an extensive medical record is compulsory and essential for each patient treated.

The healthcare professionals are very busy with 24*7 patient care, administrational activities, frequent Seminars and conferences at medical colleges. Due to lack of time for the documentation of records, the health care professionals dictate the patient case history in a tape recorder which can be done very faster and the recorded audio can be documented.

The process of medical transcription is not completed. the patients medical records are recorded in audio format. With the help of internet technology booms, these audio files are transferred to offshore companies like India, Philippines, Pakistan and Kenya. These recordings are listened by the medical transcriber and the audio files are documented. The documented patients records are proof read and sent back to destinations( Hospitals, Clinics And individual Practitioners)
